PLANT CITY — A 65-year-old woman who was ejected when the vehicle she was riding in blew a tire and flipped on Interstate 4 on Tuesday afternoon has died, authorities reported Wednesday.
Hortensia Urso of Tampa was in the back seat of a 2004 Ford sport utility vehicle when the tire blew just before 4 p.m. near Branch Forbes Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The westbound SUV flipped twice and landed upside down.
Urso, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital where she later died, the patrol said.
The three other passengers — Katrina Urso, 37, Brady Urso, 7 and Salvatore Urso Jr., 10 — were taken to Tampa General Hospital with the driver, Salvatore J. Urso, 38. All were wearing seat belts and had minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
