Woman injured in Wednesday morning Tampa crash dies

TAMPA — A woman who was seriously injured in a crash Wednesday morning on Sheldon Road died overnight at a hospital, authorities said.

Caridad Chamizo, 48, of Tampa was hurt about 8 a.m. Wednesday when her 2001 Ford Explorer flipped onto its roof after being hit from behind by a 2001 Toyota Corolla, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said. The crash happened as Chamizo was headed south on Sheldon Road, near Waters Avenue.

Chamizo died in the hospital early Thursday, authorities said.

The driver of the Corolla, 22-year-old Luis Arroyo, of Tampa, underwent a voluntary blood draw to test for alcohol or drugs in his system, authorities said. However, deputies did not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash closed the southbound side of Sheldon Road for about three hours Wednesday morning.
