Woman killed, drivers injured in Largo crash along U.S. 19

Largo police investigate the scene of a fatal two-car accident along U.S. 19 at Cove Cay condominiums’ entrance Tuesday.

LARGO — Police are investigating a crash that killed one person and injured two others late Tuesday.

A 79-year-old driver and his 75-year-old wife in a gold Lincoln were traveling south on U.S. 19, attempting to make a left turn into the Cove Cay condominiums when they were was struck by a blue Chevy Impala shortly after 8:30 p.m., according to Largo police.

Witnesses said the Chevy, driven by a 27-year-old Perry man, was northbound on U.S. 19 at a high rate of speed, police said.

The 75-year-old woman in the Lincoln died. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators said speed and alcohol were "possible contributors to this crash," according to a report released by the Largo Police Department.

The identities of those involved had not been released late Wednesday afternoon.
