TAMPA — Officials identified the two people who were on a jet ski that crashed on the Hillsborough River on Sunday, seriously injuring one of them.

Florida Fish and Wildlife spokesman Baryl Martin said Abdelrahman Elsayeed, 22, was driving the jet ski, and Emilie Shoffstall, 21, was his passenger.

Tampa Police said the jet ski crossed the wake of a boat on Hillsborough River and ran into a metal sign. Shoffstall hit her head on the sign and was thrown off the jet ski.

Martin said Shoffstall remained at Tampa General Hospital in serious condition on Monday. Elsayeed had minor injuries.

Martin said none of the boaters seemed to be impaired, but the Fish and Wildlife Commission, which routinely investigates boating accidents, is determining if any boating laws were violated.
