Wreck on I-4 sends FHP trooper to hospital

3-car Seffner crash injures trooper

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured Wednesday night in a wreck on Interstate 4 in Seffner, authorities said. The accident happened about 10 p.m. The trooper, whose name was not released, had responded to an accident, and was trying to drive a motorist across the westbound lanes to get back to her car. A truck struck the FHP car as it crossed I-4, the patrol said. The trooper had activated the emergency lights on his cruiser. The box truck then hit another car. The FHP trooper, female passenger and driver of the third vehicle suffered "non-incapacitating" injuries, the patrol said, and were taken to local hospitals. The truck driver was uninjured. The crash closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 in that area late Wednesday. The investigation continues.
