Zephyrhills man dies in crash during medical emergency

ZEPHYRHILLS — A 65-year-old Zephyrhills man died Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his truck during a medical emergency.

Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released the name of the man because his next of kin has not yet been notified. The truck's passenger, Sheryl Rice, 57, also of Zephyrhills, suffered minor injuries.

The two were riding in the southbound land of U.S. 301 south of Centennial Road around 3:20 p.m. when the man had a medical emergency, which was not specified in FHP reports. He lost control of the truck and drifted to the right shoulder of the road where it crashed into a concrete drainage ditch then a wooden power pole.

Emergency workers took the man to Florida Hospital Zephyrhills where he died. Rice was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
