Zephyrhills motorcyclist dies in crash near Lakeland

LAKELAND — A motorcyclist from Zephyrhills died Sunday night after crashing into a guardrail, authorities said.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Christina Brown Partanna, 55, was with a group of other motorcyclists about 7 p.m. going south on Old Dade City Road near Rockridge Road, north of Lakeland.

Partanna, driving a purple Honda, was traveling in the lead of the group of bikers that included her brothers-in law.

She started around a curve on Old Dade City Road at around 30 mph, but disappeared from the sight of the motorcyclists behind her, the Sheriff's Office said.

Partanna had struck a guardrail and was thrown from her motorcycle, deputies said. She was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
