PORT RICHEY — Dyllan Michalski had his first, and only, birthday Friday.

Just three days later on Monday afternoon, Dyllan nearly drowned while taking a bath with his older brother and was rushed to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. He was taken off life support and died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The child's death is being investigated because Dyllan and his 2-year-old brother were left unattended for several minutes in the bathtub, which had about an inch of water, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. His parents — Lauren Roe, 20, and Bernard Michalski, 21 — were at home on Zimmerman Road near Port Richey at the time. Authorities say Michalski was the one who found Dyllan unresponsive in the tub.

Terry Field, spokesman for the state Department of Children and Families, said there were two calls to the DCF hotline about the family in 2008 and both were investigated by the Sheriff's Office.
