TAMPA — A drunk driver speeding in the Northdale area hit and killed another driver early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Ryan Matthew Carll, 25, of 2704 Cedaridge Drive, was impaired due to "alcohol, opiates, benzodiaphine and cannabis," while he was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan pickup truck, the arrest affidavit states.

At about 1:30 a.m., he was going 70 mph is a posted 50 mph zone and failed to slow or stop to avoid hitting the other car at the intersection of Dale Mabry Highway and Mapledale Drive, the affidavit states.

He was arrested at about 7 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital and charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. He was taken to the Orient Road Jail, where he remains without bond.
