Attorney's gun causes stir at Tampa courthouse

TAMPA — Officials found a loaded firearm in a briefcase at the Hillsborough courthouse Friday, prompting a 10-minute lockdown of the building.

Deputies at the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse discovered the .380 pistol while screening the briefcase in an x-ray machine.

Attorney James Amarosa II, who has a license to carry a concealed weapon, told officers he accidently left the gun in his briefcase.

No charges are expected.

This is the first firearm this year that Sheriff's Office screeners have identified and the third since they took over the courthouse screenings in January 2010, the agency reported.
