Authorities say Hillsborough deputy's car rammed by stop sign runner

TAMPA — A Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized after an SUV ran a stop sign and rammed his cruiser, authorities said.

The crash happened at W North A Street and Fremont Avenue N about 10:09 a.m.

Deputy Michael Bucciarelli, 24, was taken to Tampa General Hospital as a precaution. The SUV driver, William Gietzen, 65, of Plant City was also hospitalized as a precaution.

Deputies said Bucciarelli was northbound on Fremont Avenue N. Gietzen was westbound on W North A Street when deputies said he ran the stop sign and rammed the left side of Bucciarelli's vehicle.

Bucciarelli has been with the Sheriff's Office since January 2009. He was on duty at the time of the crash.
