Autopsy: Ruskin kindergartner didn't die of foul play or contagious disease

TAMPA — A kindergartner who died after falling ill during lunch at Cypress Creek Elementary School did not die as a result of foul play or an infectious disease, authorities said Thursday.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office completed is autopsy on Jose Maria Pinto-Rosa, 6.

About 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jose was in the lunch room of the Ruskin school when he complained of being sick. School employees took him to the nurse's office, where he collapsed. School officials called 911, and the boy died shortly afterward in a hospital.

The Medical Examiner's Office has not released an official cause of death. It was awaiting results of a toxicology analysis, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's spokesman said Wednesday that it appeared the boy had died from some sort of medical condition.
