Baby in Tampa dies in grandmother's care

TAMPA — Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of an 8- or 9-month-old baby who died Friday after having been found unresponsive in its grandmother's care.

The infant's grandmother was babysitting at a home at 10216 Oasis Palm Drive in Town 'N Country and may have been napping when the baby's 12-year-old sibling came home and found the baby unresponsive on a mattress, deputies said.

Deputies and paramedics responded to the home at 3:45 p.m. and rushed the baby to a hospital, where it was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, deputies said.

The infant's identity and cause of death have not been released. No charges have been filed.
