Belcher Road to reopen after hazardous materials investigation

UPDATE 7:55 p.m.: Authorites say Belcher Road will be reopened shortly. Hazmat crews determined the white vapor coming from a truck was liquid oxygen. It does not pose a hazard to the community.

CLEARWATER — Officials have closed part of Belcher Road near Logan Street as they investigate a report of possible hazardous materials in the area.

Elizabeth Watts, the city's public safety spokeswoman, said a truck at a nearby medical equipment company is emitting a moderate amount of white vapor. No evacuations have been ordered, but the road is closed between Logan Street and the railroad tracks.

Officials got a call about the vapor at about 6:20 p.m., Watts said. It is unclear when Belcher Road will reopen.
