Boca Ciega High student charged with bringing gun on campus

GULFPORT — Police have arrested a student at Boca Ciega High School on a charge that he brought a gun on campus.

Shemar O. Scarlett, who turns 17 on Friday, was arrested on a charge of possessing a weapon on school grounds, a felony.

Scarlett was arrested after a school resource officer intervened in a fight between Scarlett and another student. While speaking with the students, the officer learned of a gun in Scarlett's vehicle, Gulfport police said.

The officer received permission from one of Scarlett's parents to search the vehicle and found the gun, a .380 semiautomatic pistol loaded with one bullet, in the trunk, police said.

Police also learned the gun had been reported stolen from someone in Clearwater. Police said they are trying to return the gun to the owner.

Police said it was not clear if Scarlett stole the gun.

Buckle up for Baby Driver, a movie so full throttle cool that you want to fist bump the screen. Style is the substance of Edgar Wright's inventive heist flick, a fresh, masterful synching of music and getaway mayhem, as if La La Land's traffic jam was moving, armed and dangerous.

Baby (Ansel Elgort) is a getaway driver for heist arranger Doc (Kevin Spacey). Plagued by tinnitus, Baby tunes out his distracting “hum in the drum” by listening to music while he drives.
