Body found in Hernando County's Jenkins Creek is possible suicide

WEEKI WACHEE — A man's body was found floating in Jenkins Creek on Friday morning by a couple walking on a bridge at Jenkins Creek Park on Shoal Line Boulevard.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office identified the man as James Henry Mason, 49, of Spring Hill. His vehicle was in the parking lot near Jenkins Creek, a short distance north of Hernando Beach, and a handgun was found near the body, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office reported the death is a possible suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
