LARGO — Authorities are investigating the death of a man found in a ditch Wednesday morning near the Pinellas Safe Harbor homeless shelter, but they do not suspect foul play.
Pinellas County sheriff's deputies responded to a call that a person had been found in a ditch at 14840 49th Street N about 7:40 a.m. Largo Fire Rescue went to the scene and pronounced the man dead at 8:07 a.m.
It does not appear the man's death is suspicious, the Sheriff's Office said. His identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
Safe Harbor opened in January near the Pinellas County Jail complex, designed as a cost-effective shelter for non-violent homeless offenders.
