BROOKSVILLE -- A bomb squad has exploded a suspicious package outside of the Hernando County Courthouse and officials are examining the debris for any sign of dangerous materials.
A Henando County Sheriff's Office deputy carried the box away from the courthouse in downtown Brooksville around noon and a team from the State Fire Marshal's Office blew it up in a controlled blast, according to the sheriff's office.
The box was mailed to Circuit Judge Richard Tombrink and arrived this morning, officials said. Courthouse workers examined it at the building's x-ray machine but the images of the contents were blurry.
The courthouse was not evacuated, but adjacent Jefferson and Broad Streets were closed temporarily.
