Brushfire sends up smoke column in Hudson

HUDSON — Firefighters responded to a brush fire Friday afternoon that sent a thick column of smoke over northwest Pasco.

Pasco Fire Rescue workers went to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. when they saw the smoke, according to county spokesman Doug Tobin. They found a fast-moving, 10-acre brushfire at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Arcola Avenue near Sunnydale Drive.

No injuries have been reported and no structures are involved, Tobin said.

Through the afternoon, the smoke caused road closures between Sea Pines Drive and Old Dixie Highway, according to the Pasco Sheriff's Office. As the fire grew, southbound U.S. 19 at Sea Pines Drive also was shut down.
