California murder suspect has Tampa Bay ties

Police in San Bernardino, Calif., are looking for a man with Tampa Bay ties they suspect of stabbing his wife to death earlier this month.

Ashley Atherley, 28, and her husband, Edly, 29, relocated to San Bernardino from Tampa in the spring.

According to police, Edly Atherley stabbed his wife in his San Bernardino home and left her body in a bathroom. Police found her on Dec. 1, after Edly Atherley's family called police, concerned that they hadn't heard from the couple in several days, San Bernardino Police Homicide Detective Al Tello said.

A warrant has been issued for Atherley's arrest. Tello said Atherley has family in the Tampa area, and that local authorities and airports have been notified that he could head toward Florida.

Edly Atherley's criminal history includes a November 2008 charge of domestic violence in Hillsborough County. In 2005, he was arrested on a domestic battery charge in Charlotte County, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.
