MADEIRA BEACH — A 75-year-old Canadian woman died Sunday night after being struck by a car as she crossed Gulf Boulevard with her family, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Joan Patrick of London, Ontario, and members of her family left a restaurant after having dinner and were crossing Gulf Boulevard near 147th Avenue at about 6 p.m. According to sheriff's officials, everyone in the group made it safely across the northbound lanes. But deputies said Patrick was slightly behind her family as they crossed the southbound lanes and she was struck by a 2010 Nissan Altima driven by 28-year-old Nicole Biggs of Seminole.

Patrick was taken by ambulance to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m.

Deputies say neither impairment nor speed appear to be factors in the crash.
