LARGO — A four vehicle crash set a car on fire and shut down East Bay Drive for about an hour on Friday.
There were no life threatening injuries reported, said Largo Lt. Edward Sohoski.
Five individuals refused treatment and five others were taken to nearby hospitals, "mostly for precautionary reasons," said Dave Mixson, Largo Fire Rescue division chief of operations. One went to Morton Plant Hospital, three to Largo Medical Center and one to Largo Medical Center at Indian Rocks.
The call came in shortly after 1 p.m. When crews arrived at the scene near Bedford Circle, they found that one of the cars had burst into flames. No one was inside the car, Mixson said.
"They could see smoke from the station," he said.
The fire apparently started in the car's engine compartment, Mixson said.
