WESLEY CHAPEL — A 15-month-old girl is in critical condition after nearly drowning this morning.

Pasco County Sheriff's deputies and Fire Rescue crews arrived at 27825 Breakers Drive after getting a call at 11:07 a.m. that a child was found in a pond by the house.

Kayla Chanea wandered out of the home through a sliding glass door, said Doug Tobin, spokesman for the Sheriff's Office. There were three adults in the home, including Kayla's father. A family member noticed Kayla was missing and began looking for her – noticed the sliding glass door open and found her in the pond, Tobin said. Kayla was given CPR and flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa by helicopter.

"It appears accidental at this point," Tobin said of the incident.
