Clerk sold alcohol to minor even after seeing underage ID, Hillsborough deputies say

TAMPA — He wasn't 21, and his identification showed it.

But even after seeing the underage ID, a store clerk sold him an alcoholic beverage, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies arrested the clerk around 8 p.m. Saturday at Bulls Discount Beverage, 13406 N 56th St. near Temple Terrace.

An underage informer working with the Sheriff's Office used valid identification with a birth date that showed he was under 21, deputies said. A plainclothes deputy watched the sale.

Deputies identified the store cashier as 25-year-old Pedro Ruiz of Tampa. He faces a misdemeanor charge of selling alcohol to a minor. Jail records indicate he also was being held Sunday in Hillsborough County jail for federal immigration authorities.
