CLEARWATER — The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued a man and his dog from a dinghy floating more than 60 miles off the Pasco County coast, authorities reported Friday.

A helicopter crew responded to a report of a sailboat fire about 69 miles west of Hudson, according to the Coast Guard. A man and his dog had abandoned ship and were floating in a dinghy. They were being transported Friday evening to the Coast Guard air station in Clearwater.
