Countryside High officer chosen as school resource officer of the year in Pinellas

CLEARWATER — Clearwater police officer Cathi Long has been named School Resource Officer of the Year for Pinellas County Schools.

Long, the school resource officer at Countryside High School since 2013, has used personal time to mentor multiple seniors not on track to graduate, coordinated the Operation Graduate program for at-risk kids and launched Teen Court to defer students from the judicial system, according to the school district.

Pinellas County Schools recognizes one school resource officer every year for outstanding service to students. Long was chosen because "her initiative, organizational skills and commitment to student safety all work together to make her tremendously effective in getting results that make a difference at Countryside High School, according to the school district.
