Crash causes power outage in Hudson

HUDSON – Five hundred homes were without power for five hours Friday night after a car plowed into a utility pole, a utility spokesman said.

The crash happened at 7:30 p.m. across from the Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point on Fivay Road in Hudson. The driver took off after hitting the pole, which supplies power to the Beacon Woods and Lakeside Woodlands communities, said David Lambert, spokesman for the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative.

"It was a main artery," Lambert said.

Crews worked through the night to minimize the outage and prevented up to 10,000 homes from losing power, Lambert said. They narrowed it to 500 customers, who did not have power from 10:15 p.m. to 3:15 a.m.
