ST. PETERSBURG — Police say a 4-year-old boy found a gun under a house and fired it, but no one was injured.

At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a home at 1742 Yale St. S after the child's mother and grandmother called police.

The boy had been outside playing with a cat that ran under the house. He followed the cat and found a revolver in the crawl space. Police said he took the gun onto the porch and fired one round into the ground.

The gun was unregistered and had several rounds in it, police said. Neither the boy's mother nor grandmother own a firearm. Police think someone may have discarded or hidden the gun under the house.
