UPDATE: A Lake Placid man is in custody after he shot a Highlands County deputy in the head on Sunday night. [Read more]

 

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a deputy has been shot in Lake Placid.

"A deputy has been shot in Lake Placid," the agency wrote on its Facebook page. "We will release more details when we can. Please keep us in your prayers."

The sheriff’s office said a suspect is in custody.

The agency has instructed the media to arrive at a staging area to learn more information. We will update tampabay.com with more details when they are available.
