CLEARWATER — Police said they arrested a 54-year-old man they called the "Bic Bandit" after he was accused off stealing trays of Bic lighters from a downtown convenience store on four separate occasions.
Norris Thompson faces charges including robbery and petit theft following his arrest on June 18.
According to police, Thompson targeted the 7-Eleven at 657 Court St. within a one-month period.
He would enter the store for a short time and grab a display of lighters — including as many as 50 on one occasion — before running out, police said.
In one instance, police say Thompson told the clerk, "I’ve been to prison, man. I got a knife and I’ll slice you up."
Thompson, who also faces charges for stealing frozen shrimp and fried chicken from a nearby Publix, has several arrests in Pinellas County on charges including drug possession and petit theft, jail records show.
