Deputies: Pasco woman threatened judge, asked on Facebook about clock towers ‘within sniping range of the courthouse’

ZEPHYRHILLS — On Aug. 1, Jeanie Lynn Bowman appeared in the West Pasco Judicial Center with a request: She wanted a judge to lift a no-contact order in a battery case where Bowman was the victim. Circuit Judge Mary Handsel denied the request.

Later that morning, deputies said, Bowman took to Facebook to air her grievances. And according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, what she posted led to her arrest Thursday on a charge of making written threats to kill or do bodily harm.

"Jeanie Lynn Bowman is feeling angry," read the initial post, at 10:41 a.m. on Aug. 1, according to the Sheriff’s Office. "If anyone needs me, I’ll be at the top of a clocktower eliminating problems ..." The post appears to have been removed from her page.

Later that morning, deputies said, she updated the post: "Searching for one within sniping range of the courthouse, open to suggestions."

About an hour later, deputies said, she followed comments about drinking herself to death with this: "Well it’s that or homicide, so yeah ... cheers."

In an ensuing investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies reviewed phone calls between Bowman and Stephen Hunt, a jail inmate convicted in the battery case involving the no-contact order.

In those conversations, deputies said, Bowman admitted to making the Facebook post, made disparaging comments about Handsel and said she knew where Handsel’s daughter plays softball.

Later, Bowman told deputies she made the post while she was upset after going to court. She apologized to them and said she never intended to follow through on the threats.

Bowman was arrested and taken to the Pasco County Detention Center, where she was being held Thursday on $10,000 bond.
