Deputies: Woman drives drunk through Fort De Soto campgrounds at 3 a.m. honking horn and waking people up

Pinellas sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman who they said was driving drunk through the campgrounds at Fort De Soto Park at 3 a.m. Sunday morning while honking her horn and holding a bottle of wine.

Sarah Elizabeth Knapp, 31, of St. Petersburg was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct in a public place and DUI.

Deputies said they received several complaints that morning about a car being driven recklessly through the campgrounds. The driver was blowing the horn and waking up people in the campground, arrest reports state.

When deputies arrived they found Knapp sitting in the car screaming at someone and holding a bottle of wine in one hand and her keys in another, arrest reports state.

Deputies placed Knapp in the back seat of a cruiser and asked her if she would take field sobriety tests or a breath test. She refused to answer, then began screaming expletives at them, reports state.

Deputies noted that her breath smelled distinctly of alcohol and her eyes were bloodshot and watery.

Jail records show she was released on $600 bond.
