LARGO — A Clearwater man faces multiple charges after police said he tried to rob a Speedway store with a knife early Tuesday morning.

According to Largo police, a silent alarm went off at the Speedway store on 2698 Roosevelt Blvd. around 1:22 a.m.

Officers said they spotted Geoffrey Chad Davis, 31, holding a knife inside the store and loading a cart full of merchandise while two employees were inside. Patrol cruisers surrounded the store as Davis continued to load the cart. Police said he walked out with the merchandise about an hour later.

Officers confronted Davis after he was a safe distance away from the business. As they approached him, police said, Davis began to run back toward the front door but was stopped by a group of officers that included a K-9 police dog.

Davis suffered minor injuries, police said. None of the store’s employees were injured in the inicdent.

Davis was booked into Pinellas County jail around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. He faces charges of resisting an officer without violence and robbery with a weapon. He was being held in lieu of $155,000 bail.

Davis has a lengthy criminal history that dates back to 2011, jail records show. His previous arrests include charges of possession of controlled substances, petit theft and multiple counts of burglary.
