Police seek suspect who critically wounded Pinellas Park bicyclist

PINELLAS PARK A 44-year-old man was critically injured Monday night after he was shot while riding his bicycle, according to Pinellas Park police.

Officers investigated a 7 p.m. call about a bicycle accident at the 6600 block of 62nd Avenue N, police said. Paramedics took bicyclist John Chesterfield Asch to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for medical treatment, police said.

Then the hospital told police that Asch had suffered a gunshot wound. He remained in critical condition at the hospital late Tuesday, police said.

Investigators are attempting to identify whoever shot the bicyclist and exactly where the shooting took place. Pinellas Park police did not release any other details about the incident.

However, police did say that they do not currently believe this shooting is related to the shooting deaths that have recently taken place in the Seminole Heights area in Tampa.
