WESLEY CHAPEL — A 34-year-old man was arrested Thursday night on a charge of first-degree murder in the 2015 death of his girlfriend, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrick Whyte was recently indicted by a Pasco County grand jury for the killing, which stemmed from an incident that deputies said took place in June 2015 in Tampa.

Witnesses told authorities they saw Whyte "violently" grab his girlfriend, Kristen Moon, on June 27, 2015 while they were at Hyde Park Cafe in Tampa. They said they saw and heard Whyte beating Moon while the couple drove away, authorities said.

That evening, Pasco deputies and paramedics were dispatched to Whyte’s house on Sunset Lane and said they found Moon lying on the ground, unresponsive and badly injured.

At the time, Whyte told authorities Moon fell out of the vehicle. She died the next day.

The medical examiner’s report declared Moon’s death a homicide, authorities said, because she suffered multiple injuries, including to her head and ribs. Whyte was being held late Friday in the Pasco County jail without bail.
