APOLLO BEACH — Deputies say they've cracked a rash of tire and rim thefts in southern Hillsborough County. The Sheriff's Office arrested Brian Dubien, 46, on Wednesday, and detectives say they have linked him to 18 such thefts over the past year.
For months, deputies had been investigating these thefts, which occurred mainly in south Hillsborough County. Eventually, they got enough evidence to get an arrest warrant for Dubien.
On Wednesday, detectives went to Dubien's Apollo Beach home and spotted his truck parked out front. He had a set of tires and rims in the truck's bed, they say.
A short time later, they stopped Dubien as he drove away from his home in his truck. They believe the items in the truck's bed were stolen just six hours earlier in the Rivercrest subdivision in Riverview.
They have linked him to 17 other tire and rim thefts in Hillsborough neighborhoods, including some in Panther Trace and FishHawk Ranch.
Dubien faces charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property and violation of probation for a previous aggravated battery charge. Detectives are continuing to investigate and say they anticipate more charges.
