TAMPA — Deputies arrested a south Hillsborough man Thursday for selling thousands of dollars worth of stolen metal to a scrap yard, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
John Costa, 31, of Apollo Beach, stole more than $20,000 worth of metal from his employer, an arrest report shows, and sold some of it to a scrap yard for about $8,000. Deputies discovered the metal was stolen, and Costa admitted to the theft.
Costa faces one count of grant theft, another count for providing false information to a scrap metal yard and 16 counts of dealing in stolen property.
Costa also faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance because deputies said he had oxycodone in his pocket.
He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail, where he was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail on Friday.
