TAMPA — University of South Florida police are seeking the public's help in finding two men who attempted to steal a student's jewelry and backpack on the Tampa campus Tuesday night.

Police say the suspects approached the female student in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza near the Interdisciplinary Science Building around 9:15 p.m. They engaged her in conversation, then took her backpack from her. Her necklace fell to the ground as a result of the physical contact.

The victim was not injured and no weapons were used, police say. All of her property was recovered at the scene of the incident.

Both suspects are in their early 20s with blonde hair, police say. One was wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts, and the other was wearing gray sweat pants and a dark blue shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the USF Police Department at (813) 974-2628.

An earlier version of this story and headline incorrectly stated that the two men were armed.
