ST. PETERSBURG — Police are searching for four men who robbed a St. Petersburg man in his home late Sunday morning. One of the robbers was wearing a bulletproof vest labeled "K-9" during the incident.
At about 10:40 a.m., four men armed with semiautomatic handguns broke into the home of 48-year-old Paul Taylor, 2907 14th St. N, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa. They left with a set of keys, a cell phone and several thousand dollars.
No one was injured, no arrests have been made and there have been no other robberies linked to the four men, Kajtsa said. The robbers are thought to be in their 20s. Kajtsa said the incident had "drug overtones," but he did not elaborate.
Kajtsa said he's not sure whether the robbers identified themselves as police officers — K-9 is police jargon for a police dog — and the vest could have been purchased on the Internet.
"But we're not concerned with that," he said. "We're concerned that this is an armed robbery."
