ST. PETERSBURG — He had filed for divorce in February. She had moved to Brandon.
Then about 1:25 p.m. Friday, Myron Stenhouse, 45, called St. Petersburg police to say he needed an officer. He said something about a knife. He said something about his wife laying on the floor.
When officers arrived at 6236 20th Way S, they found him walking around the front yard with his 14-month-old daughter in his arms.
Inside, police said, Hunter Kelli Stenhouse, 35, lay dead of a gunshot wound.
"It's not really clear how she came to be here today," said police spokesman Bill Proffitt. "He's been cooperative but not necessarily talkative."
But neighbor Jill Morris said Hunter Stenhouse had been bringing the child over on Fridays, so the child's father could see his daughter on the weekends.
"Recently she had been coming back,'' Morris said. "They were trying to work it out."
Police confiscated a semiautomatic handgun and charged Stenhouse with second-degree murder. The Department of Children and Families took custody of the girl.
