TAMPA — A simple trip to the restroom ended in an accidental shooting at the Clarion Hotel on Thursday morning, according to Tampa police.

At 8:30 a.m., Janifer Bliss, 54, was in a restroom stall at the hotel on Fowler Avenue when a gun fell out of woman's waist holster in the next stall.

The small-caliber gun fired when it hit the floor, and the shot went through Bliss' lower left thigh. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries, according to a release from Tampa police.

The woman carrying the gun, identified as Debra Monce, 56, of 17456 Stinchar Drive in Land O'Lakes, has a concealed-weapons permit, the police said.

The case is still being forwarded to the state attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed.

"The holster was an open holster with no snaps or clips to hold the gun in place," said Andrea Davis, a police spokeswoman.
