DUNEDIN — Jose Miguel Rodriguez-Irizarry asked Pinellas deputies not to arrest him on a charge of reckless driving early Wednesday morning for fear he would be fired from his job, according to sheriff's reports.

But he did not ask them nicely.

"Before I'm fired I will come find you (and) your family (and) I will then kill your family first then you," Rodriguez-Irizarry told a deputy, according to reports. "I will find where you stay (and) kill you."

So deputies added another charge for the 35-year-old Clearwater man: threatening a public servant.

According to deputies' reports, Rodgriquez-Irizarry sped by four Pinellas sheriff's cruisers around 1:36 a.m. He was doing 63 in a 35 mph zone, according to deputies, on Main Street.

But when they tried to pull him over, the driver didn't cooperate. Instead deputies said he drove even faster, doing over 80 mph on a 45 mph road.

Rodgriquez-Irizarry was passing other vehicles until he made a quick U-turn onto Patricia Avenue that sent his car fishtailing.

The driver was angry when deputies reached him, the reports said, and said an incident at a local bar had angered him.

Rodgriquez-Irizarry, of 1875 Sunset Point Rd., is currently being held in the Pinellas County jail in lieu of $5,250 bail. According to reports, he works at Progress Energy.
