TAMPA — Neighborhoods and the Tampa Police Department are teaming up in a stance against crime.

Both will come together Tuesday to heighten community crime awareness and prevent criminal acts as part of National Night Out. The event is in its 26th year, and Tampa police have been involved for at least 10.

"Police are very active at every event, whether it be giving speeches or showcasing different resources the department has available," said police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor. "Our purpose is to meet the citizens and interact with them."

Some neighborhoods are having events to celebrate the day.

Mobley Park Apartments near downtown, for example, will have a party at the clubhouse including free music, food and health physicals. The event starts at 4 p.m. and will conclude with a Walk Against Crime around the property around 8 p.m. The complex is located at 401 E Seventh Ave.

"It's a way for us to reach out to our community and to get our residents involved," said Pamala Bradford, leasing consultant.
