TAMPA — Authorities have arrested a janitor for Robles Elementary School, charging him with lewd and lascivious behavior with an 8-year-old student.
On May 29 about 4:30 p.m., an 8-year-old girl in an after-school program wandered into a classroom alone, said Hillsborough Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter. The custodian, Otis Vinson, 43, was inside and began swinging the girl around by her arms.
He then started rubbing her against him sexually, Carter said. The girl went home and told her mother, who called police.
Prosecutors issued a warrant for Vinson's arrest, and police arrested him Saturday at N 28th Street and E 17th Avenue. He was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail and later released on $7,500 bail, according to jail records.
Vinson, a 16-year employee of the school district, has been suspended from his custodial job with pay, said Linda Cobbe, Hillsborough County School District spokeswoman. The decision to suspend him without pay or fire him is left to the School Board.
Vinson has worked at Robles since February, Cobbe said. He worked at Broward Elementary School, 400 W Osborne Ave., for three years before that and at Boyette Springs Elementary School, 10141 Sedgebrook Drive in Riverview, from 1993 till 2006.
