ZEPHYRHILLS — A man was arrested Tuesday after authorities said he punched a 69-year-old man in the face inside a church.

Dale F. Helmuth, a 59-year-old man listed as having several scars and missing fingers, is accused of hitting the man inside Community Chapel Church of God on First Street. A report from the Zephyrhills Police Department does not give a possible motive.

Officers found Helmuth at the Zephyrhills library Tuesday afternoon and arrested him on a charge of battery on a person 65 or older. Helmuth, an unemployed laborer who lives on Second Avenue, is being held at the Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Helmuth admitted to knocking the man's glasses off his face, the arrest report states.

A pastor at the church said he hadn't heard about the incident, but thought the victim might have been a church worker based on the time it happened and the age of the victim.
