TAMPA — A 29-year-old man was shot in the leg Monday afternoon in the Grant Park area, a police spokeswoman said.
David James Wade of Tampa told police he was riding a bike down 52nd Street when two to three people drove past in a black Infiniti, got out and accused him of robbing them the week prior, then got out of the car and attacked him.
Wade was shot in his right thigh during the incident and began to run.
Tampa police and Tampa Fire Rescue were alerted about the shooting shortly before 3 p.m. by a 911 caller who said they heard a struggle and a gunshot near E 30th Avenue and N 52nd Street.
Wade was taken to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives were hoping to talk with him more about the incident after his gunshot wound was treated, Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
In the meantime, police are on the lookout for the black Infiniti with 22-inch rims that Wade described. Davis said other witnesses said the car was black, but were less sure of its make.
Wade has been arrested six times since 1999. Five of the arrests involved possession of illegal drugs, state records say.
