DADE CITY

Deputies: Driver had her own tequila setup

A woman was caught driving Thursday evening with a half bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila by her side, sliced limes on the console — and two children as passengers, according to a report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Genoveva Amacenda-Velona, 30, of Dade City is charged with aggravated child neglect, DUI, not having a valid driver's license and not having a motor vehicle registration. She was held Friday at the Land O'Lakes jail without bail.

The children, ages 7 and 9, wore seat belts, the report states. Amacenda-Velona was pulled over about 7:30 p.m. near U.S. 98 and U.S. 301 for not having a passenger side headlight on her white 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, which had California tags, the report states. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.233, the report says, nearly three times the level at which the state assumes impairment.

Amacenda-Velona did not speak English but, through an interpreter, told deputies she only had three or four beers at a friend's house, the report says.

NEW PORT RICHEY

Patient wanted out; he was taken to jail

Robert Edwards, 38, wanted out of Community Hospital on Thursday afternoon, but the IV catheter was still in his left arm, which bears a tattoo of Yoda. (Darth Vader is etched on his right arm.)

When a nurse tried to stop Edwards from leaving, he shouted and then ripped the IV out of his arm and threw it on the nurse — striking her neck and cheek and spraying her with his blood, according to the New Port Richey police report.

Edwards, who lives at 7412 Carnival Lane in New Port Richey, was arrested on a charge of battery on a health care provider. He was released from jail Friday on $5,000 bail and allowed to go home.
