CLEARWATER — A Largo man was arrested early Saturday and charged with a Friday night shooting that killed a Clearwater man, officials said.
Authorities were called to 340 Fairwood Ave. shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, said Elizabeth Watts, public safety spokeswoman for the city.
The victim, Alvin Toney, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center, where he later died.
Toney, 17, was shot several times in the parking lot of the Park Place Apartments on Fairwood Avenue, according to Watts.
The accused shooter, Trenton V. Williams, heard that Toney had a gun for sale and orchestrated a robbery to get the weapon, Watts said. He was being held Saturday in the Pinellas County Jail on a first-degree murder charge.
Several people may have been involved in the incident and additional charges are pending, officials said.
In an unrelated incident, a 24-year-old Clearwater man was shot in a parking lot on Alpine Road early today. Judah N. Michael was standing in the lot with some friends when several people approached and fired several shots. Michael was in critical condition early Saturday at Bayfront Medical Center. Robbery is believed to be the motive, Watts said.
