TAMPA — The wife of Tampa police Chief Stephen Hogue has filed for divorce, saying the marriage is irretrievably broken after almost 34 years.

Charlotte Hogue filed a petition to dissolve the union on March 17, according to court records. The couple, who have two adult children, have been living apart since the filing, records state.

Charlotte Hogue is asking for temporary custody of the couple's four-bedroom Tampa Palms home, as well as alimony, records show. Hogue said Wednesday that, yes, he is a public figure, but this is a personal issue.

"I'm not going to discuss this thing at all," he said. "It's a private matter between me and my wife."

When Hogue was named Tampa's police chief in September 2003, he thanked Mayor Pam Iorio, then turned to his wife and thanked her for being at his side.

The couple married in Temple Terrace in 1974, according to court documents.
