TAMPA — It has been a costly couple of weeks for country clubs in New Tampa.
The Hunter's Green Country Club Pro Shop has been burglarized three times since July 11. Police are looking into reports of theft at other clubs, including one in Tampa Palms.
Keith Gillham, a pro shop employee at Hunter's Green, said burglars broke the glass on the door early July 11 and loaded up two golf carts with merchandise. "They used the golf carts to get away but we got those back."
He said burglars struck again, on Monday and Tuesday nights, and more goods were stolen.
Tampa Police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said there were two other burglaries during the week at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club the Hunter's Green Tennis shop.
"On the first two burglaries (July 11 and 15), the alarm went off, the alarm company called the contact person for the pro shop and he told them not to worry about calling police because it was probably nothing," Davis said. "When they arrived the next day, they discovered the pro shop was broken into."
Davis added that in all cases, burglars smashed through windows. "We are tracking some suspects at this time and working leads in the investigation," she said.
